our story
Having had numerous start-ups of our own fail or fizzle before reaching success, we understand very intimately how difficult running a business can be. There are so many little details that one doesn’t realize when they first take that leap and soon things can become very overwhelming.
But why do we do what we do? We had someone very close to us have their business (a third generation farm) nearly swept out from beneath their feet. They had relied nearly 100% on one hand-shake business relationship for years and didn’t market themselves or diversify their offerings. This business relationship ended abruptly and things were looking very grim; bankruptcy and complete emotional collapse were on the horizon. Our founder, Dan Kostecke, started his own farm back in 2015 and came from a background in sales and marketing. When he saw this happen, frustration boiled deep down in his gut, “This should NOT happen, there’s got to be a way to prevent this,” he thought and at that point, Local Farm Alliance (LFA) was born. We set out to help create and foster new opportunities for businesses so they can grow and sustain long-term. Although we originally started to help farmers and food producers, we have since broadened our scope to help businesses in various industries that needs assistance with niche issues/tasks.

Creating a customer base as a small business owner is a daunting task, especially in an area we’re not physically located. The LFA Farmers Market that Local Farm Alliance created has eased that burden for us by creating a welcoming, year-round space to sell. Best of all, we don’t have to pay a bunch of money upfront like we do our other markets.
It has been an absolute honor to be a part of the LFA family! LFA is very dedicated to the community and supporting local farmers and artisans. Working with LFA has been great and I love that my products are well represented.
Local Farm Alliance is a wealth of knowledge and is a great support for local businesses. They’re always in constant communication with me on sales at the LFA Farmers Market and is great at promoting products on Facebook and Instagram. Do not hesitate to make this partnership, you won’t regret it!
In Spring of 2020 the Mason Branch of Capital Area District Libraries partnered with LFA Farmer’s Market to distribute free seeds to our members while the library was closed. With the help of LFA, we were able to get hundreds of seeds into the hands of local gardeners safely, including beans from the inaugural One Seed, One State initiative. We are grateful to LFA for working with us on this project and look forward to many more opportunities to spread the word on gardening and local food; LFA’s commitment to their communities shows in their collaborative spirit!
